BMW 5 Series (G30 G31) - How To Check Burnt/Yellow Failed DRL

Your BMW 5 Series - G30 G31 has a number of components for the DRL system. We'll explain what the common failure points are, and how to check which components need replacing.

This specific guide is for the G30 G31 pre LCI - both LED and adaptive LED.

There are 2 components to the DRL system;

  • DRL LED board - this electronic chip produces the light for the DRL
  • DRL optic - this carries the light from the DRL board around the angel eye

The common problem is that the DRL board burns out and causes the yellowing of the DRL. In some cases, the DRL board can also cause the optic to melt and burn.

When we carry out the repair to your headlight, we'll either need to change one or both of these items - this will be checked when we have the headlight in hand.

If you'd like a guaranteed price before opting for the refurbishment and repair service, we'll need confirmation of what needs replacing. This can be done by sending us photos of the DRL board and the optic. The headlight will need to be removed and DRL LED board checked.

After changing these two items paired with a new lens, this is the completed headlight - back to normal and looking like it's just come out the factory.
